Christmas Bow

Now go to Layers...Convert to Raster.
Now choose the Selection tool...Ellipse...Antialias checked.
What you are going to do here is select an area for the back part of
the loop.
Sometimes this may take a few tries to get just the right area you
want so
try to pay attention to where you start to draw your ellipse..that
way you will
know if you need to start higher or lower or more to the left or right.
Here is my selection..the part of the loop that is in the selection
is going to be the back
of my loop.
Once you have your selection ..click inside it to make the selection
conform to
it. Flood fill it with the darker shade. Hit Ctrl C to copy it..then
Ctrl L to paste
it as a new layer. Now you can hit the Delete key to delete the one
you have selected.
Go to the Layers drop down box and click on Layer 3..it should be the
top layer..the
one you just made with the selection on it. Use the selection tool
to draw a box all around
the shape there and click inside to select it. Now move it back into
place...the same place it was
before you selected it. Like this
Now go to the Layers drop down box and click on Layer 2 to make it active.
Use the Selection tool to draw a box all around the part of the bow
there and click inside
to select it.
Click on the little arrows there below your Foreground/Background color
to switch
them. Now you should have the darker shade as the foreground color
and the lighter shade as
the background color.
Select the Airbrush...Round...Size = 60....Hardness = 0
Opacity = 24....Step = 24.....Density = 100
Now spray some shading around the left edge and top of the selection.
NOTE: You can alternate your spray colors by right clicking for the
background color
and left click for the foreground color. Usually when I shade I spray
some dark around
the outer edge..then I reduce the size of the brush by a little and
spray some
of the light in the center to help blend it in. I just alternate by
right or left clicking until
I get a good blended shade in there.
Now de-select it. Go to the Layers drop down box and click on the little
glasses on
Layer 1 to make it invisible. Now right click on Layer 2 and go to
Merge...Visible.
Now you can click on the glasses on layer 1 again to make it visible.
NOTE: Usually..I keep Layer 1 blank so if I need to I can flood fill
it with
a color to better see what I am working on. That is really the only
reason for keeping
Layer 1.
Now...depending on how big you made your loop..you may need to make
it smaller. Remember..this is only 1 loop in the bow and you will need
room for the
others..and the ends hanging down. So..if you need to make it smaller..
be sure you are on the layer the bow loop is on and click on the Deformation
tool.
Now click and drag the node boxes evenly to reduce the size of it.
Now for the second loop.
Go to the Layers drop down box and click on Layer 1 to make it active.
Be sure your Foreground color is the lighter shade of red.
Select the Preset Shapes tool..same settings as last time.
Draw an ellipse for the second loop...then click on the Object Selection
tool and rotate it.
Now right click and go to Node Edit.
Hold the Ctrl key and click on the line to add a new node above the
node on the left end.
Now drag that node up some . Adjust the other nodes to get a shape
similar to the one below.
Remember ..when making the loops...make them big enough so you can
select an area of them for the
back side.
